Texas Rangers 10 (L 72-58)

Game Notes:
The Toronto Blue Jays used a seven run ninth inning to avoid possible embarrassment at the hands of the Texas Rangers on Monday.
The Jays jumped out to an 11-0 lead after their at bats in the top of the fifth inning, but somehow managed to let Texas back into the game.
Texas used a seven run fifth inning, along with three more runs in the sixth and seventh innings to bring the score to 11-10 in favour of Toronto.
The momentum had changed and Toronto looked as if they would give up the lead, but absolutely manhandled the Texas bullpen in the top of the ninth inning for a seven run inning and eight run lead.
This is all the Jays would need, as they took the series opener in Texas 18-10.
Adam Lind had a career night hitting two home runs (one being his first career grand slam), and driving in eight runs overall, while Rod Barajas added two home runs of his own, driving in five.
Every player in Toronto's starting lineup reached base at least once in this game, with Jose Bautista and Randy Ruiz being the only players not to record a hit.
Adam Lind, 3-5, 2HR, 8RBI, 3 runs scored, 1BB
Rod Barajas, 2-4, 2HR, 5RBI, 2 runs scored
John McDonald, 3-5, 1RBI, 2 runs scored
Ian Kinsler, 2-5, 1 triple, 3RBI, 1 run scored
Taylor Teagarden, 3-4, 2 runs scored
Final starting pitching lines for the game:
Brett Cecil - 5IP, 9H, 7R, 7ER, 0BB, 7K
Derek Holland - 3IP, 7H, 10R, 10ER, 3BB, 1K
Blue Jays News:
The Jays are set to call up seven players to their Major League roster with September callup time upon us.
Surprises are not to be expected, as the Jays plan on calling up players fans have most likely seen at least once this season.
Possible call ups being named are Joe Inglett, Jeremy Accardo, Brian Wolfe, Dirk Hayhurst, Bill Murphy, Bryan Bullington, David Purcey, Brian Burres, Fabio Castro and the one long shot being Kyle Phillips.
We'll wait and see over the next two days as callups are being made to see who will get the invite.
Other Baseball News:
The biggest baseball news of the day has to go to the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have acquired veteran slugger Jim Thome from the Chicago White Sox and starting pitcher Jon Garland from the Arizona Diamondbacks to fortify their postseason roster.
The White Sox will receive Minor League infielder Justin Fuller.
The Diamondbacks will receive a player to be named later.
According to Dodgers personnel, the player will be Tony Abreu, but Abreu needs to first clear waivers.
Thome will be used exclusively as a left-handed power bat off the bench, since he is physically incapable of playing first base.
The Dodgers also added infielder Ronnie Belliard to their roster in a trade with the Washington Nationals for minor league right-hander Luis Garcia and a pitcher to be named later.
The Ahaheim Angels fortifed their starting pitching for their playoff push by acquiring left-hander Scott Kazmir from the Tampa Bay Rays.
Kazmir was acquired for Class AA left-hander Alex Torres and Class A third baseman Matt Sweeney, plus a player to be named later. The unknown player has possibly been named as Class AAA catcher Bobby Wilson or infielder Sean Rodriguez.
**UPDATE, Fox Sports has confirmed that the player to be named later is indeed infielder Sean Rodriguez.
The White Sox continued to clean house of veterans trading Jose Contreras to the Colorado Rockies for right-hander Brandon Hynick.
The Rockies, in the midst of a wild card run added a veteran starting presence to their roster in Contreras.
Finally, recently released pitcher Brad Penny has signed with the San Francisco Giants for the rest of 2009 after he cleared waivers on Monday. Penny will take over the fifth spot in the Giants starting rotation.
