Blue Jays Game Day Preview: July 10th 2009

Friday July 10th 2009

Toronto Blue Jays (43-44), 4th in AL East

@

Baltimore Orioles (38-47), 5th in AL East

Probable Pitching Matchup

Brett Cecil, LHP, (2-1, 6.23ERA)

vs

Jason Berken, RHP, (1-5, 6.25ERA)

Blue Jays Machine Expects:

A series win from Toronto

The Blue Jays are coming off a tough series in Tampa Bay where they lost three straight games all by one run. Baltimore is currently riding a 2 game winning streak while Toronto has lost their last 8 of 10.

Based on the series pitching matchups Toronto should take the three game series from Baltimore before hitting the All-Star Break.

Brett Cecil should be able to outpitch Jason Berken on Friday, Ricky Romero is winning every game he pitches and should better Brad Bergesen on Saturday, and finally whoever starts the game on Sunday will have a tough assignment going head to head with Orioles ace Jeremy Guthrie.

Blue Jays Machine predicts 2 out of 3 wins for the Jays.

Scott Rolen to tie Shawn Green's Toronto Blue Jays record for longest hitting streak at 28 games.

Scott Rolen is tearing the leather off the ball and shows zero sign of stopping until he becomes the sole bearer of the Toronto Blue Jays all time record for hits in straight games. Rolen has consistantly put the ball in play all season and has the swing back that made him a 5 time All-Star selection.

Ricky Romero to continue his pitching dominace

Ricky Romero has won his last 4 starts allowing only 5 earned runs in 28.1 innings of work. Romero has been baffling AL opponents with his outstanding changeup and is slowly showing signs that he could be a candidate for American League Rookie of the Year.

Blue Jays Notes:

Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston will not be behind the bench for the Jays the first two games of the Baltimore Series, as he will be attending the funeral of his sister Mattie Clarke in Texas. Toronto bench coach Brian Butterfield will do take over the reigns of head coach in Gaston's absence.
