Blue Jays Game Day Preview: July 8th 2009

Wednesday July 8th 2009

Tampa Bay Rays (45-39), 3rd in AL East
vs
Toronto Blue Jays (43-42), 4th in AL East

Pitching Matchup

Scott Kazmir (4-5, 6.79ERA)
vs
Brian Tallet (5-6, 4.38ERA)

Blue Jays Machine Expects:

Brian Tallet to pitch well

Tallet is 1-3 with a 5.13ERA in his last 5 starts.

The big left hander is due for a win.

If his changeup works well for him he could be quite a pain for the Tampa hitters.

Expect Tallet to go deep into the game if he is pitching well, as Tallet has proven in the past that he doesn't need help from his former cohorts in the bullpen.

Scott Kazmir to pitch well, but for a short span of time

Since coming off the disabled list June 27th 2009 with a left quadriceps strain Kazmir has only lasted 5 innings in his 2 starts, but has pitched well.

The Jays offense to score more than 1 run

The Jays offense hit the ball well last night, but only managed to score one run on opposing pitcher James Shields. Kazmir gives up a lot of hits (69H in 55.2IP) & is prone to walks (31BB in 55.2IP). The Jays should be able to get on base and cash in on Kazmir, who gives up many more runs (6.79ERA) than Shields (3.38ERA).
