Blue Jays Release BJ Ryan

Yes folks, you heard it.

Jordan Bastien of MLB.com reports in the following article that BJ Ryan has been given his release from the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Jays are still obligated to pay Ryan the 10 million dollars he is owed next season.

In my opinion a wise move to save dollars in the long run.

Ryan has been useless, even in a mop up roll this season.

The once reliable closer has struggled mightily since receiving Tommy John surgery missing most of the 2007 season.

Ryan returned as the Jays closer in 2008 and faired well notching 32 saves.

In 2009 Ryan's velocity dropped drastically and he lost his closer's position to Scott Downs.

Ryan's career numbers with the Jays over 4 seasons: 5-9, 2.97ERA, 75SV in 87SVO, 155 APP, 69BB, 160K

Farewell to the "Beej"
