Blue Jays Game Day Preview: July 18th 2009

Saturday July 18th 2009

Boston Red Sox (55-34), 1st in AL East

@

Toronto Blue Jays (44-47), 4th in AL East

Probable Pitching Matchup

Brad Penny (6-3, 4.71ERA)

vs

Marc Rzepczynski (0-1, 3.00ERA)

Blue Jays Machine Expects:

The Blue Jays offense to score more runs:

In yesterday's loss the Jays faced a determined Clay Buchholz who completely shut them down. Brad Penny is more prone to allowing runs and currently boasts an ERA of 4.71. Expect Toronto to score more than one run and deliver with runners in scoring position.

A high scoring affair:

As I stated above Brad Penny is prone to giving up runs and Toronto sends young rookie Marc Rzepczynski to the mound for his first career start against Boston's high powered offense. I personally think this will be a game of offense and both teams bullpens will get in a lot of work.

An odd outfield start from John McDonald:

Blue Jays outfielder David Dellucci suffered a foot injury making a devastating catch in the seventh inning of Friday's game. Super utility man and Toronto fan favorite John McDonald replaced Dellucci in left for the final innings. Unless Vernon Wells is recovered from his stomach virus, expect to see "Johnny Mac" playing left field today for the Jays.

*Adam Lind ends up making the start in left as Kevin Millar takes the Designated Hitter spot*
